The Beginning

So Far...

This Summer:

It's been a packed, and such a sweet season of life these past few months! I got married in June. I got accepted to do this apprenticeship. And I've gotten time to connect with old friends, new friends, and family. Here's a few pictures that have captured some of my Summer.

This is me and my WIFE! She loves people so well and is a ball of energy and fun. I'm lucky to have her as my wife. Also, we LOVE desserts.

This is our wedding party. The guys in my party are Casey, Ricardo, Austin, Brandon, Sameer, Akwasi, Ryan, Matt, Nate, and Jacob. These names might not mean much to you, but these guys are friends that have had a huge impact on my life. God's been good to give me such good friends.

This is my wife and I with our good friend Sameer at our wedding!

This is my friend Casey. He has been such a good, consistent friend to me the past few years. This is us at my first day on the job!

This Month:

This past week was my first week on the job! On our first day, we had a licensing ceremony where we committed to leading, learning, and loving well over the next 10 months. After that, we had a staff retreat in Bridgeport, TX at a small camp. I got to know some of my coworkers/friends better, especially the staff at Collin College. Plus, staff retreat was so much fun! To finish off this week, we're starting our first class over the Old Testament. Here's some pictures:

This is the whole group of apprentices! A lot of us are at different campuses, but we'll take the same classes together throughout the week so I'll get a lot of time with these guys.

This is our entire staff worshiping. At staff retreat, we had discussions each morning and night, and worshipped before those times. I think one thing God showed me He wants me to grow in is being known. I realized that it's easy for me to not share and just ask people questions about themselves. That's much more comfortable for me. I'm both excited and nervous for how God will bring my thoughts, feelings, and desires more into the light.

This is our entire FOCUS staff (with some cut out). We're being goofballs singing happy birthday to everyone who's birthday was in August and July. Working on this team is a blast!

This is the Collin College guys staff playing a game of 21 (basketball). I lost.

Looking Ahead

This month is PACKED. Next week we have a student leadership training camp. We'll get to go to a camp near San Antonio for a whole week. I can't wait to spend a whole week learning and having fun with our student leaders. After we get back, we'll have a week of classes. And to finish off the month, we'll finally get to be on campus for welcome week! During welcome week, we'll have events planned at each Collin College campus (Plano, Frisco, Mckinney, and Wylie). Our goal is to reach, love, and invite as many students as we can that first week.

Thank YOU

I am so thankful for all of you. Y'all are and will be such a blessing to me and to the students in our ministry this year. I'm thankful to have each of you as partners in the work God is going to do this year! Can't wait to update y'all on what God's going to do the rest of this month!

Join Me in Prayer

For me, please be praying over how I use my time this month. It's gonna be a packed month! Pray that I would discern how to use and plan my time. Pray that I would prioritize pursuing God and loving His people. Pray that I would start using good planning habits to start the year off. Also, pray that I would grow in showing myself more to people around me.

For our ministry, here's some things that you can be praying for this month!
Today - 8/13
  • Pray over our student leadership week and the student leaders that come.
8/14 - 8/22
  • Pray for God to prepare the hearts of incoming students to be open to Him.
8/23 - 8/31
  • Pray for endurance and faithful hearts in our student leaders and in us. That we would be faithful in our efforts to reach and love students on campus during welcome week.
  • Pray for God to work on each campus (Plano, Frisco, Mckinney, Wylie).

In Love,
Austin Nelson

September’s Ministry Update

Meeting Students This past month I’ve been able to meet a lot of new students! We have been having a question board asking some questions to engage with students, make some new friends, and invite them into a Jesus-centered community. I didn’t take many pictures except for after, but here’s the responses we got! The question on the board above is “What is your favorite thing about fall?” This was a popular one and we had some good conversations from this one! The question on the board for the week above was “What is success?” This was the most recent question board we had. We had one student come by and say that “she loves coming by to talk to us.” It is so neat that people have remembered us! We hope students will know us as Christians who ask questions, listen to others, and love people who stop to talk to us. Making Friends This is Juan Duron. He is a guy I got to meet at one of our discussion boards and now I’m getting to study the Bible with him! He loves Jesus and has a heart for

August Ministry Update

First Month of Ministry! SICM During the second week of August, all of the ministers with FOCUS and all of our student leaders got to a leadership/discipleship conference called Student Institute of Campus Ministry (SICM). At SICM, our goal is to help equip student leaders to be bold, disciple-makers when they get on campus. Also, SICM was such a blast! I learned a lot, had a blast, and got to know our student leaders at Collin. This is us at our first learning session. There were about 200 student leaders who came because they want to love Jesus and college students well this year! This is just one of the views at Camp Eagle. It was nice weather and beautiful all week! This is all of us worshipping outside one morning. I got to play a sport called Spikeball with a new friend Landry. We lost most games, but we won in friendship. Sorry, that was cheesy. This is a table I set at for lunch one day. Among the guys in this picture are my good friend Corey (from UTA last year) and my newer g
