August Ministry Update

First Month of Ministry!

SICM

During the second week of August, all of the ministers with FOCUS and all of our student leaders got to a leadership/discipleship conference called Student Institute of Campus Ministry (SICM). At SICM, our goal is to help equip student leaders to be bold, disciple-makers when they get on campus. Also, SICM was such a blast! I learned a lot, had a blast, and got to know our student leaders at Collin.

This is us at our first learning session. There were about 200 student leaders who came because they want to love Jesus and college students well this year!

This is just one of the views at Camp Eagle. It was nice weather and beautiful all week!

This is all of us worshipping outside one morning.

I got to play a sport called Spikeball with a new friend Landry. We lost most games, but we won in friendship. Sorry, that was cheesy.

This is a table I set at for lunch one day. Among the guys in this picture are my good friend Corey (from UTA last year) and my newer good friend Pedro.

This is me and some Collin College guys chowing down on breakfast. This place had killer food.

Playing some more Spikeball. I won this time!

Me and Taylor! She is a pastor with FOCUS at UTA so we both got to go to SICM.

Welcome Week

Welcome week is the first week of school at college. At Collin College, it started on August 23rd! We hosted outreach events every day that week and met so many people who are desiring friendship and a relationship with God!

During this week I met a guy (I'll call him D). D walked by after we had our worship night (it was about 10pm). He stopped and asked what we were doing. I told him we were a Christian group and he then made me give him my number! He is an international student from Nigeria who lives on campus. He told me that he has been looking for a church and Christian friends since January (when he started college). He came to church with me that Sunday and has come to everything we do since.
Praise God for answering our prayers to prepare people's hearts!

Hanging out at Taco Bell with some students we met at the Frisco campus.

Our first Thursday Night Fellowship (TNF) event of the year. So many new students!

A volleyball event we invited new students to. Again, so many new students! Praise God!

Invitation to Prayer

In our small group this past week, we played a game where we asked each other one serious and one goofy question. One of the serious questions someone asked was "who are you?" They said it as a joke and everyone laughed, I think because it seems like an impossible question to answer. But the good news of being a Jesus person is that we are God's children! We have life to the full and we have purpose in life beyond what we do. Even though we can doubt or forget, we know who we are!

God has let us befriend so many students who are hungry for friendship, for God, and for truth. I'm excited and hopeful for the students we've befriended to get to experience Jesus this year!

Some things to pray for:
  • Non-christians in our ministry to experience Jesus. We've gotten to meet a lot of students at the McKinney campus who aren't Christian!
  • Pray specifically over 2 students D and A. Pray over their relationship with Jesus to keep growing.
  • Pray over our outreach at the McKinney Collin College campus.

September’s Ministry Update

Meeting Students This past month I’ve been able to meet a lot of new students! We have been having a question board asking some questions to engage with students, make some new friends, and invite them into a Jesus-centered community. I didn’t take many pictures except for after, but here’s the responses we got! The question on the board above is “What is your favorite thing about fall?” This was a popular one and we had some good conversations from this one! The question on the board for the week above was “What is success?” This was the most recent question board we had. We had one student come by and say that “she loves coming by to talk to us.” It is so neat that people have remembered us! We hope students will know us as Christians who ask questions, listen to others, and love people who stop to talk to us. Making Friends This is Juan Duron. He is a guy I got to meet at one of our discussion boards and now I’m getting to study the Bible with him! He loves Jesus and has a heart for

The Beginning

So Far... This Summer: It's been a packed, and such a sweet season of life these past few months! I got married in June. I got accepted to do this apprenticeship. And I've gotten time to connect with old friends, new friends, and family. Here's a few pictures that have captured some of my Summer. This is me and my WIFE! She loves people so well and is a ball of energy and fun. I'm lucky to have her as my wife. Also, we LOVE desserts. This is our wedding party. The guys in my party are Casey, Ricardo, Austin, Brandon, Sameer, Akwasi, Ryan, Matt, Nate, and Jacob. These names might not mean much to you, but these guys are friends that have had a huge impact on my life. God's been good to give me such good friends. This is my wife and I with our good friend Sameer at our wedding! This is my friend Casey. He has been such a good, consistent friend to me the past few years. This is us at my first day on the job! This Month: This past week was my first week on the job! On
